There are two conversations about TikTok advertising happening in the Fraser Valley right now. In one, a lash studio owner watches bookings arrive from a video filmed on a Tuesday afternoon and wonders why she waited so long. In the other, a B2B equipment supplier quietly writes off three months of invoices for views that never became a single enquiry. Both stories are true, both are common, and the difference between them was knowable in advance. Here is the checklist we use before recommending the platform to anyone.
Does your business photograph like a story
TikTok is a visual storytelling machine, and it rewards businesses whose work has a visible before, during and after. Lashes, hair, aesthetics, food leaving a kitchen, gyms mid workout, detailing transformations, retail hauls. If a stranger would watch your work happen for fifteen seconds without being paid to, you pass this question. If your value lives in spreadsheets, contracts or invisible reliability, paid TikTok will struggle no matter how clever the creative, and we will tell you so in the first meeting.
Do your customers decide with their eyes
The platform excels at purchases people feel before they rationalize. Treatments, meals, experiences, fitness, style. It performs worst where buying decisions route through committees, tenders or procurement, because the person watching is rarely the person signing. A med spa consult can absolutely start on a couch at eleven at night. A packaging contract cannot, and pretending otherwise burns budget that LinkedIn or Google would have converted.
Can you feed the machine
TikTok ads are not a set and forget channel. Creative fatigues faster here than anywhere else, and winning accounts refresh material constantly. The practical question is whether filming can become a routine at your business, a few hours every month or two, batching clips at your location. The encouraging news is that polish is not the requirement, authenticity is, and a phone plus a plan outperforms a production crew making something that smells like television. If nobody at your business will ever be comfortable filming, that is a real answer, and it matters more than any targeting setting.
Is the audience myth stopping you
The objection we hear weekly is that TikTok is for teenagers, and it is years out of date. The platform’s fastest growing cohorts have been adults with money, and locally that includes precisely the demographic booking aesthetics, fitness, dining and home services. Your customers are more likely on the platform than not. Whether they will act there depends on the earlier questions, not on their birth year.
Can you measure past the view counts
View counts are the platform’s applause, and applause pays nothing. A fit business commits to measuring enquiries, bookings and cost per lead, with tracking configured before launch and view metrics kept firmly in their place. This is non negotiable in our TikTok ads engagements, because the platform will happily report triumph forever while your till disagrees. If a vendor ever shows you reach as a result, you have learned something important about the vendor.
Scoring yourself honestly
Four yes answers, visual work, feel first customers, filming capacity and measurement discipline, make you a strong candidate, and the remaining question is just offer and budget sizing. Two or three suggests a cautious test with clear exit criteria. One or none means your budget almost certainly works harder on Meta, Google or Bing, and the honest move is spending it there. Fit checks like this one open every TikTok conversation at our Abbotsford office, because the fastest way to lose a client is selling them a channel their business was never shaped for.
If you passed, here is the next step
Bring your booking calendar and your phone to a consultation, and we will sketch the first month together, what gets filmed at your location, what offer fronts the campaign, what a realistic cost per enquiry looks like in your category locally, and what number would tell us to stop. The whole plan fits on a page, the filming fits in an afternoon, and the answer about whether the valley’s scroll wants your business arrives within weeks, measured in enquiries rather than applause.
